ABOUT ME

In 2015, I opened Calne Pet Supplies, a small independent pet shop specialising in some of the best natural foods, treats, health & wellbeing supplements and accessories for dogs, cats and small animals.

Since then I have welcomed hundreds of dogs through the door and have spent many, many hours supporting owners.  I soon realised not only how overwhelming information for dog owners is but how much misinformation and how many outdated and potentially damaging training methods and unqualified trainers are out there.

In 2019, I approached The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, the leading body for dog trainers and behaviourists worldwide and a founder signatory to the UK Dog Behaviour and Training Charter which is seeking to regulate what is currently an unregulated industry.

After gaining numerous accreditations through the IMDT and membership of The Pet Professional Guild as a Canine Training Professional, I launched The Puppy Adviser in January 2021.

My studies continued and after attending more courses both theoretical and practical alongside many more hours of private study and research, I undertook a rigorous and thorough weekend of assessment by the IMDT in September 2021 and am now proud to be a fully qualified trainer.

In order to maintain my qualified status, I will be required to undertake and provide evidence of my continuing professional development on an annual basis, something which I embrace whole heartedly and have many plans for the future.

I work with dogs of all ages and breeds including rescues, training all foundation behaviours and developing life skills.

I specialise in the areas that most frequently require training, advice and support including loose lead walking, recall, socialisation and enrichment as well as feeding and increasingly natural health & wellbeing.

I also work with dog to dog reactivity resource guarding, separation anxiety and canine cognitive disorder.

My key specialism is puppies. Bringing home a puppy and the subsequent days, weeks and months should be one of the most fun-filled and memorable of your life.

More often than not, I encounter puppy parents who are exhausted, stressed and confused and wishing every second of puppyhood and adolescence away.

I work with puppy and you to make the most of puppyhood.

I am happy to share my accreditation certificates on request and discuss my continuing professional development.

I am fully insured and I am a certified canine first-aider.

I am proud to be a genuine qualified and professional, fear free, positive reward-based trainer.

"We chose the 4 lesson option and we cannot speak highly enough of the information, advice and training that Julia has offered us. Bobby (3mth old Cockapoo) has come on leaps and bounds through Julia's advice and training techniques...her polite and friendly manner made our weekly sessions something that we looked forward to."

"I immediately felt relaxed with Julia and so did Beryl (4yr old Romanian rescue)...with Julia's help, her great training techniques and tips we made huge progress with Beryl and me!! Julia's understanding of dog's behaviours and also how humans react with their dogs was insightful. After our session I left feeling confident that I could continue the training with Beryl"
